Resuming day two on 1/3, in chase of the Hebou PNG Barramundis’ 1st innings of 257, NT Strike got off to a steady start with Ben Wakim (17) and Jacob Dickman (13) taking the score to 41 before Dickman was stumped off the bowling of Lega Siaka. Then the Hebou PNG Barramundis took control and got on top off the Strike’s batsmen, taking wickets at regular intervals to reduce the NT Strike to 7/76. Jacob Dick (30) and Matt Hammond (26) tried to steady the follow of wickets making valuable contributions in the middle order, but when their wickets fell, the Barramundis were able to go through the lower order to dismiss the Strike for 140 in 51.4 overs. The wickets were shared among the Barramundis bowlers with Norman Vanua (3/41) leading the way taking three (3) wickets, while Alei Nao (2/24), Chad Soper (2/28) and Mahuru Dai (2/28) all took two (2) wickets apiece.
The Hebou PNG Barramundis then batted again, with Vani Vagi Morea (53*) and Jack Vare-Kevere (37) leading the way, taking the score to 2/102 off 24 overs before Hebou PNG Barramundis’ Captain, Assad Vala declared the innings close.
The NT batted out the remaining 14 overs off the day to be at 1/89 before stumps were called. Alei Nao was the only wicket taker for the Barramundis, trapping Luke Robin (26) Leg Before Wicket (LBW).
The Hebou PNG Barramundis have a couple of days off before taking on the Edge and the Grit on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September in the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) Premier League competition in Darwin.
This current tour is in preparation for ICC Intercontinental Cup (ICUP)/World Cricket League Championships (WCLC) Round 6 Fixture against Scotland which will take place in Port Moresby from 1-8th October. The Hebou PNG Barramundis are currently sitting in fourth (4th) place on 40 points in the ICUP Standings after five (5) rounds while they are in second (2nd) place in the WCLC Standings on 14 points after five (5) rounds also.
